Suddenly Cambodia has opened completely. The requirements if fully vaccinated:
- Covid quick test on arrival
- Forte Covid insurance purchased in Cambodia or before
- Tourist visa online approved and granted
- One year retirement extension for $280
There are no quarantine times and no deposit like before. Flights are opening up. I can go for $600 or so one way. It used to be one could not get visa extensions like the retirement or business extension on the tourist visa. Only one extension for 30 days could be given.
This is different and no one knows how long it will last. Often there are contradictory requirements from embassies and immigration and customs on the ground in Cambodia.
When my friend J told me this; the natural next question is,
so are you going?
And my answer is no. I don’t feel like going there. What I feel like is continuing my adventures here and later in Belize, Costa Rica and Panama. There is only isolation there. One country or so open. The rest not. But I also decided to wait and see what happens.
The truth is Mexico is also very easy to live in when retired. I live a pretty good life here with no real expenses. I’d never get an apartment or condo here. I don’t want anything more than what I have.
And right now I have it all. And I think Cambodia would be less. Maybe acceptably so. But why not just have all I can have? I also just left the edge in July. Not so long ago. Now I want new adventures in new places.
So at this moment I think good for Cambodia and I hope tourists and retirees return. I love the people and the country. It’s just not for me.
